Posters, Demos & GRAND Experiences
On the evening of Wednesday, May 14, the Opening Reception of the conference will include a Poster and Demo session. This year’s session will feature an additional new submission category: GRAND Experiences. GRAND Experiences move beyond traditional demonstrations to enable attendees to more fully engage and interact with research underway in the network.
Each Phase One project will be offered space for a total of three (3) presentations in this venue (posters, demos, and GRAND Experiences).
Each Phase One project will be offered space for one poster to be accompanied by a demo. Each project will also be given the opportunity to submit additional posters, with acceptance of any additional posters subject to demand and availability of space. As only a small number of GRAND Experiences can be accommodated, these submissions will be reviewed separately and prior to the poster and demo process.
NOTE: While it is expected that the majority of presentations (Posters and Demos / GRAND Experiences) will be associated with Phase One projects; submissions for presentations from Phase Two projects will be considered on a case-by-case basis where the work presented is outside the scope of any Phase One project.
For Grad Students and Postdocs
GRAND Experiences: The title, abstract, list of authors, letter of support from the project leader, and GRAND project acronym must be submitted by Friday, February 7, using the conference PCS submission system. The submission process for GRAND Experiences will be competitive, with an expected 8-10 slots available. As accepted submissions will count toward its project’s presentations quota, authors should coordinate with their supervisors and project leaders prior to preparing a submission.
Posters and Demos: The title, abstract, list of authors, and GRAND project acronym must be submitted by Tuesday, March 11, using the conference PCS submission system. There will be available space for some posters from each project to be accompanied by a demo; submissions must indicate whether a demo will be accompanying the poster- please select “demo important”, “demo preferred” or “no demo” at time of submission.
In all cases, submissions should be initiated by the student or postdoc who will present at the conference; He/she will serve as the contact author.
Travel support is available for up to two (2) presenters (from the poster, demo, and GRAND Experience categories) per Phase 1 project. Project leaders will determine which presenters will receive a travel subsidy. Travel support for airfare and up to four (4) nights of hotel will be provided to selected student or postdoc contact authors.
For Project Leaders
Each Phase One project within GRAND is expected to submit three (3) posters featuring some aspect of the work underway within the project. One poster from each Phase One project can be accompanied by a demo, and a select number of demos will be offered the opportunity to be presented as a GRAND Experience (see description). GRAND Experiences count towards the project demo quota.
The submission process for GRAND Experiences will be competitive, with an expected 8-10 slots available. As only a small number of GRAND Experiences can be accommodated, these submissions will be handled prior to the standard poster and demo process. Accepted GRAND Experiences will count towards its project’s poster & demo quota, as such, all proposals for GRAND Experiences must include a letter of support from a project leader. Notifications of accepted GRAND Experiences will be sent out prior to the poster and demo deadline.
On or before Friday, March 19 the project leader will indicate which three (3) presentations (including any accepted GRAND Experiences) will fulfill the guaranteed poster slots, as well as which two (2) students or postdocs will receive travel support. Project leaders will receive periodic updates of poster submissions from GRAND Central in the weeks leading up the deadline and a complete list of submissions on Friday, March 14. Additional posters should be ranked according to preference and may be accepted if there is available space. Decisions regarding which of these additional posters are to be displayed, if any, will be made by GRAND Central.
