Today’s grand challenges – climate change, energy shortage, disease outbreak monitoring – can only be addressed by large-scale projects with distributed, multidisciplinary teams, from academia and industry. Such knowledge-based work involves collaborative problem solving and knowledge exchange, using a variety of tools for discipline-specific and collaborative tasks.
