The 2012 GRAND/Funcom Games Initiative was a hands-on, industry-focused project born of a unique partnership between GRAND and Funcom, an international massively multiplayer online game developer and publisher. The Games Initiative took place June 11 to August 26, 2012.
Participants had 10 weeks to apply their technical skills and creativity to an original Funcom concept and produce a high-quality prototype inspired by the original design. Working on-site at Funcom's Montreal studio, and assisted and mentored by senior designers from Funcom, the team learned the processes, team dynamics, and workflows that go into adapting a creative concept to a working prototype in a professional setting. The 2012 GRAND/Funcom Games Initiative was a non-commercial project where participants had the opportunity to be immersed in game development and add industry experience to their resumes.
