Two Canadian doctoral awards, valued at $1,000 each, in areas related to GRAND's research are seeking nominations for "best dissertation" in 2010. Both awards will be presented at the annual Graphics Interface conference, May 25-27, 2011 in St. John's Newfoundland. The two awards are the Alain Fournier Ph.D. Thesis Annual Award and the Best Canadian HCI Thesis Award.
Alain Fournier Ph.D. Thesis Annual Award
The committee managing the Alain Fournier Ph.D. Thesis Annual Award is seeking quality Ph.D. students in graphics who have defended their thesis between January 1st and December 31st, 2010.
Alain Fournier has left us with fundamental innovations to many areas of computer graphics. His generosity, curiosity, and insights have inspired researchers through-out the world. This is the 6th installment of the Alain Fournier Ph.D. Thesis Annual Award.
The selection committee will evaluate each candidate according to the quality of the innovations, the thesis, the curriculum, etc.
The deadline is March 15th, 2011.

Best Canadian HCI Thesis Award
The Best Canadian HCI Thesis Award is given annually for the best doctoral dissertation completed at a Canadian university in the field of Human-Computer Interaction. The selection committee bases its decision on nominations received from the research community. The award funds are administered by the Vancouver Foundation. The award is presented at the annual Graphics Interface conference.
If you know quality Ph.D. students in Human-Computer Interaction who have defended their thesis between January 1st and December 31st, 2010, you should strongly encourage them to apply to this award.
The deadline is March 15th, 2011.
