Dr. Abby Goodrum is the Vice President: Research and a Professor of Communication Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. She was previously Associate Dean for Scholarly Research and Creative Activities in the Faculty of Communication and Design at Ryerson University, where she also held the Velma Rogers Graham Research Chair in News, Media, and Technology. She has also worked for CNN, Canon and IBM.
Abby holds degrees in Radio, TV and Film, and in Library and Information Science from the University of Texas, and a PhD in Information Science from the University of North Texas. After completing her PhD, she worked at Drexel University in Philadelphia, before moving to Syracuse University where she was a faculty member in the School of Information Studies as well as a research scientist at the Information Institute of Syracuse and research associate with the Convergence Center for Communication and Media Studies.
Abby has authored or co-authored a book and numerous book chapters, journal articles and refereed conference papers. She sits on numerous boards, including the Annual Review of Information Science & Technology, Worlds of Journalism Study, Mobile Experience Innovation Centre, Knowledge Media Design Institute, Journal of Communication Studies, and Journalism & Mass Communication Educator.
