Dr. Arvind Gupta is the President and Vice Chancellor of The University of British Columbia and former CEO and Scientific Director of Mitacs (formerly MITACS: Mathematics of Information Technology & Complex Systems), a federally and provincially funded research network based at the University of British Columbia with offices located across the country. In 2003, Arvind spearheaded the creation of MITACS Accelerate, an internship program which provides the opportunity for Canada’s graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to undertake applied research projects in collaboration with companies from coast to coast.
Prior to joining MITACS, Arvind helped found the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery. Arvind obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 1991, and is a Professor at the University of British Columbia. He is currently the President of the 2011 International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
