Replaying Japan is a one day symposium on Japanese game culture, game studies and the gaming industry that will bring together researchers from Japan and Canada on August 22nd, 2012 at the University of Alberta to talk about the challenges and opportunities in cross-cultural study of game culture with a particular focus on university/industry interaction.
Researchers associated with the Ritsumeikan Center for Game Studies (http://www.rcgs.jp/), at Ritumeikan University, Kyoto, will participate along with researchers from the GRAND network of centres of excellence (http://grand-nce.ca). The symposium will address issues like:
· What is the state of game studies in Japan and more generally Asia?
· How can academic game studies engage industry? What models are there for university/industry collaboration?
· How can cross-cultural and international collaboration contribute to the field of game studies?
The symposium will be open to the public and industry participation is welcome.
